Hyundai Elantra 2013 Performance & Safety

Performance and Safety

AN EFFICIENT PERFORMER

Designing an engine clean and efficient isn’t easy, especially when we never once considered sacrificing performance for fuel economy. The Nu DOHC, 16-valve design packs more power and mid-range punch into a 4-cylinder package equipped with an aluminum alloy engine block to reduce engine weight and improve fuel economy. By coupling a two-step Variable Induction System and Dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing for optimal engine response, emissions are minimized at both low and high rpm. Burning fuel so cleanly, the ultra-efficient 148 hp engine is a certified Ultra-Low-Emission Vehicle (ULEV).

Six airbags. Vehicle Stability Management. Electronic Stability Control. When you consider all the safety features that are standard on the 2013 Elantra, it’s no wonder that the Elantra was a 2012 IIHS Top Safety Pick. In fact, it is one of the very few in its class to offer 4-wheel disc brakes with an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) on every model. Here’s to new thinking, new possibilities, and new standards.

Peformance Highlights

1.8L D-CVVT DOHC 16V ENGINE

Dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing automatically adjusts intake and exhaust valve timing for maximum performance at every speed. At low speeds, smooth idling is met with reductions in fuel consumption and emissions by advancing the timing. Prod the gas pedal, and timing is advanced for quicker induction and more torque over a broad rpm range.

A DIGITAL REVOLUTION

Electronic Throttle Control improves drivability and fuel efficiency by replacing a conventional cable and linkage setup with much faster electronic hardware. By switching to a computer-controlled system, engine torque is optimized through greater air intake precision.

Safety Highlights

SIX STANDARD AIRBAGS

Working together with the seatbelt tensioning system, Elantra’s dual front airbags, front seat-mounted side-impact airbags and roof-mounted side-curtain airbags provide a cocoon-like integrated safety system.

The supplemental restraint system (SRS) is designed to work with the three-point seatbelt system. The SRS deploys in certain frontal and/or side-impact conditions where significant injury is likely. The SRS is not a substitute for seatbelts, which should be worn at all times. Children under the age of 13 should be restrained securely in the rear seat. NEVER place a child seat in the front seat of a Hyundai vehicle.

ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC)

ESC continuously monitors factors such as wheel speed, steering angle and lateral g-forces. When it senses a skid is imminent, brake and throttle inputs are adjusted to help keep your Elantra on its intended path.

Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Traction Control System (TCS) are meant to enhance conscientious driving habits and are not a substitute for safe driving practices.

HIGH -STRENGTH STEEL

The 2013 Elantra features unibody construction with high-tensile steel which helps to deliver a smoother ride with less vibration and better handling.

Advanced Brake Technologies

Brake Assist senses emergency braking situations and immediately applies maximum braking pressure to minimize the vehicle’s stopping distance. Electronic Brake force Distribution balances braking pressure at each wheel to further improve braking performance.
